Collar Size Guide
When ordering your first Pawsonify collar we highly recommend that you measure your pet's neck size prior to placing your order. Generally speaking our cat collars are one size fits most, but for dogs it can get very confusing with how many breeds there are.
PET TYPE | SIZE | NECK SIZE |
---|---|---|
Cat | One Size Fits Most | 8-12" (20-30.5 cm) |
Dog | Extra Small (XS) | 8-12" (20-30.5 cm) |
Dog | Small (S) | 10-15" (25.5-38 cm) |
Dog | Medium (M) | 13-20" (33-51 cm) |
Dog: | Large (L) | 16-26" (41-66 cm) |
To choose a collar size for your pet:
We always recommend that you measure your pet's neck size for the most accurate collar fit. There are two easy ways to get your pet's neck measurement size:
- Measure your pet's existing collar length.
- The best kind of collar allows you to fit two fingers between your dog's neck and collar.
- Lay your pet's existing collar flat and measure it in inches.
- If you don't have a measuring tape or ruler, try using a measuring app on your phone. If you have a printer you can also print out a ruler.
- Loosely measure circumference of your pet's neck using a cloth measuring tape, in inches, around roughly where a collar would normally sit.
- If you don't have a cloth measuring tape, you can use any kind of string or ribbon, then measure its length after marking where the buckle should be.
- To make sure the collar isn't too tight you should add one to three inches to this measurement to find the correct collar size.
Dog Collar Sizing Chart by Weight
Weight will give you a basic idea of where to start when looking for the correct collar sizing for your dog. Below will offer you a starting point of what sized collar to buy based on your dog’s weight:
- Dogs up to 10 pounds will likely need a collar with a length of 12” or less (Extra-Small)
- Dogs between 11-25 pounds will likely need a collar with a length of 11”-15” (Small)
- Dogs between 26-55 pounds will likely need a collar with a length of 13”-18” (Medium)
- Dogs between 56-80 pounds will likely need a collar with a length of 16”-24” (Large)
These measurements are a good starting point but are not guaranteed that they will be 100% accurate for every dog. True measurements can vary between dogs based on neck size on their weight distribution. To get a truly accurate measurement we always recommend that you measure your dog's neck using a cloth measuring tape.
Dog Breed Neck Size Guide
Certain breeds may span between multiple collar sizes depending on their weight and size.
As an example pictured above are two husky mixes:
- Timber (left) is a Husky-Malamute mix, wears size Large (75 lbs)
- Digit (right) is an unknown Husky mix, wears size Medium (45 lbs)
